An Open Letter

To: Rep. Buansi

From: A constituent in Chapel Hill, NC

May 1

I am your Jewish constituent, writing to ask you to vote NO on H942. This bill will not make me or my family safer. H942 uses a contested and problematic definition of antisemitism adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. I encourage you to learn about the IHRA definition and about the Jerusalem Declaration, a more accurate, less inflammatory and less dangerous definition of antisemitism. Free expression is an important, invaluable facet of both American and Jewish cultures. I am disturbed that criticism and opposition to the state of Israel may be criminalized. I don't want my identity to be any part of squelching free speech, especially principled speech in support of human and international rights. ry and discussion. We like to say, "two Jews, three opinions." H942 and the IHRA definition of antisemitism infringes on free speech and damages this culture of free inqui VOTE NO ON H942!
