SB1298 poses a grave threat to online freedom and free expression. The vague criteria for determining "harmful material" risk enabling subjective censorship of legitimate online content and speech. Furthermore, the severe penalties proposed, including substantial fines and legal costs, would unduly burden online platforms and services. Rather than restricting access to diverse perspectives online, we should safeguard the open internet as a forum for the free exchange of ideas and information. I urge you to oppose SB1298 and any measures that could enable online censorship or chill free expression on the internet.
